Europe, 1944. You are the general. Your soldiers are small bouncing cubes, and the war they fight is deadly serious. Squads take houses window by window, engineers dig trenches under shellfire, supply trains steam into contested stations, and a single order can send a stream of heavy bombers over a town. Your men report back by telegram, and you answer with a stamp.

FRONTS 1944 is in active development. This build is an early version, so expect rough edges and balance changes. Your feedback shapes what comes next.

Fight for every house

Buildings are the heart of every battle. Squads garrison them and fire from the windows. Artillery and tanks tear them down until they collapse into ruins, sometimes with men still inside. Set up your HQ in a building you hold, and your engineers can fortify it step by step: sandbagged windows, braced walls, a reinforced roof, and finally a bunker the bombs barely scratch.

Command by telegram

Squads don't just wait for clicks. They take objectives, report heavy resistance, run low on ammunition, break under fire, and send you a telegram about it. Answer with a stamp: Advance to next objective, Hold position, Fall back, or Fight to the last man. Answer several at once, or set standing orders so routine reports answer themselves. Ignore them, and morale suffers.

The war in the air

Build hangars at your airfields and send fighters, ground attackers, bombers, recon planes and transports. Call in heavy bombers for a carpet raid, and drop paratroopers behind the line. Flak fights back. Runways get cratered, hangars burn, and whoever controls the sky controls the battle. Every order leaves a stamp on the map showing where the shells and bombs will fall.

Supply lines, rivers and bridges

Manpower, munitions and supplies keep your army alive. Hold the railway stations and supply trains bring cargo and fresh squads to the front. Cut the enemy's track, blow up their bridges, or have your engineers throw a pontoon across the river.

Weather that changes the battle

Fight in summer, autumn or winter. Fronts roll in with a forecast. Thunderstorms and snowstorms ground every aircraft, rain turns fields into mud that bogs down trucks and tanks, and fresh snow shows every footprint and tank track.

The real 1944 arsenal

A researched database of 750 historic weapons, vehicles, guns and aircraft from the United States, the United Kingdom, the Soviet Union and Germany, each with its own rarity. Soldiers gain experience and rank, and veterans are worth keeping alive. Browse all of it in the in-game codex.

Every battlefield is new

Maps are generated for each battle: small skirmishes to huge fronts, villages or dense towns, woods, hedgerows, rivers, railways and airfields. When the guns fall silent, an After-Action Report names the heroes, aces and stalwart defenders.
